"A new origin in Pur Dark: to your taste buds!

A WORD FROM THE CREATORS

PLAQ Tien Giang 84% is made from a cocoa bean from Vietnam. This chocolate has a fruity-spicy-cocoa profile but in sweetness and subtlety.
The fruit notes are stewed: prunes and black cherry jam. Notes of walnuts and hazelnuts then lightly roasted cocoa then arrive in the mouth and even - for some - a light roasted accent which gives depth. Finally, a sweet touch of spices (cinnamon, ginger and sweet pepper). It is a very melting chocolate in the mouth.

Notes of prunes and black cherry jam. Then roasted cocoa notes, even a little smoky.
Light and sweet touch of spices (cinnamon, ginger and sweet pepper). Very melting in the mouth.

2 INGREDIENTS. NOTHING ELSE.

Tien Giang cocoa beans from Tien Giang Vietnam (84%) and unrefined organic cane sugar from the state of São Paulo Brazil (16%). Lecithin-free. No added cocoa butter.

"It is in Tien Giang province, the gateway to the Mekong Delta, that the producers of this cocoa are located. This region benefits from very favorable agricultural conditions, thanks to a rich alluvial soil that favors the growth of a wide variety of crops such as pitaya, longan, star fruit, mango, guava, and of course, cocoa.

For many years, Cho Gao district benefited from a serious cocoa farming program, with a fine cocoa cooperative supported by foreign aid organizations. Since 2012, our partner, Marou, has been sourcing directly from local farmers. Although the cooperative ceased operations shortly after, Marou has maintained a close relationship with the former members, ensuring rigorous monitoring of fermentation and paying a fair price for high-quality cocoa.

Marou is a Franco-Vietnamese tree-to-bar (a tree-to-bar is a bean-to-bar that owns its plantations). They work in partnership with Uncommon Cacao (who supplies us with Maya Mountain beans) to import Vietnamese beans to Europe. Thanks to its partnership with five local fermenters, Marou has been able to develop privileged relationships with producers, and support the planting of new cocoa trees by providing grafted cocoa plants. In 2019, no less than 6,100 cocoa plants were distributed to farmers in Tien Giang.

However, the region faces a growing threat: increasing soil salinity. This phenomenon, amplified by climate change (longer dry seasons and rising sea levels), dams and exploitation of Mekong sediments, caused considerable damage to cocoa trees during the particularly long dry season from late 2019 to mid-2020. Seawater infiltrated the delta, damaging cocoa trees on many farms.

Marou, in collaboration with farmers, is working to replant and explore solutions to protect plantations in the future.

By using these unique beans in our PLAQ bars, we are proud to support the local communities of Tien Giang and work hand in hand with their farmers, while offering you exceptional chocolate."
